What is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump is an efficient electric heating system that transfers and amplifies heat from the outside air, ground, or water to warm a building. This heat is upgraded via a compressor and heat exchanger before being transferred to your heating system, typically underfloor heating or radiators.

The earth, water, and air store heat generated by the sun and the earth’s core. In the UK, the average temperature of the ground at 1.5m depth is 11°C – 12°C. Heat pumps can carry on providing heat even at temperatures as low as -15°C.

Heat pumps can deliver over 4 times more heat energy than the electrical input, making them an extremely efficient and cost-effective commercial heating solution.

Commercial Heat Pump Solutions

Commercial heat pump systems help UK businesses cut heating costs and carbon emissions without compromising on performance. Whether you’re running a factory, hotel, office complex, or public sector building, ZLC Energy designs and installs air and ground source heat pumps tailored to your site.

Air Source
Heat Pumps

Efficiently extract heat from the ambient air for heating and cooling. Ideal for holiday businesses, hotels, and light commercial buildings. Air source heat pumps can work particularly well with seasonal holiday businesses where peak heat pump performance can match demand.

Ground Source
Heat Pumps

Most efficient low-carbon solution for large buildings such as schools, leisure centres, and offices. Reduces running costs and carbon emissions. Ground source heat pumps can be connected to various types of ground array including loops, slinkies and boreholes depending on the sites requirements.

Integrated
Systems

Combine air or ground source pumps with underfloor heating or radiators for optimal energy efficiency. Linking heat pumps with solar PV also allows further energy independance.

FAQS

1. How much does a commercial heat pump installation cost?

Costs vary depending on size, building type, and whether air or ground source systems are used. A suitable heat pump option would be bespokely quoted for on completion of detailed heat loss calculations for the building.

2. Are heat pumps suitable for my business?

Most commercial buildings can benefit, particularly those with high heating and/or hot water requirements. Typically heat pumps are suited to buildings that are better insulated however, our design team would assess your site for optimal performance.

3. Do I need planning permission?

Some heat pump installations may require planning permission, depending on size and location. Our team handle this as part of the project.

4. How long does installation take?

Typical medium-scale installations take 4–6 weeks, depending on system complexity and site preparation.

5. Can you help with financing?

Yes, although we don’t offer finance directly we can connect you to third-party finance providers for commercial sites.

6. Do heat pumps require maintenance?

Just like any heating boiler, heat pumps require annual maintenance to ensure efficiency, maximise lifespan, and comply with warranties. We provide full service and maintenance packages.
